Future Music Fest Threatened With 6pm Shut Down

As we were doing our usual morning browse of the Sydney Morning Herald we came across a worrying news item by journalist Jano Gibson, who reports that Randwick Council is set to vote tonight on police proposals to restrict next year’s Future Music Festival, at Randwick Racecourse, to a 6pm finish, and to ban alcohol service after 5pm. A restriction like this would obviously seriously damage next year’s festival, which (it has been revealed) is set to star N*E*R*D, and would also set a rather worrying precedent for other events on Sydney’s burgeoning summer festival calendar.

If you love FMF, though, there is something you can do to help save it – first sign the petition protesting the proposals (http://www.inthemix.com.au/news/aust/40569/Sydney_Future_Music_Festival_threatened_by_6pm_closure), or if you'd care to take a few minutes today to write to Randwick City Council and urge them to consider other options – hit here (http://www.randwick.nsw.gov.au/Your_Council/How_Council_operates/The_local_government_framework/Mayor_and_councillors/Your_councillors/index.aspx) for the full list of councillors, and here (http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/the-future-looks-dark-as-early-finish-threatens-music-festival/2008/11/24/1227491462478.html) for the story in the SMH.
