Allow Western Digital Corp, one of the storage industry’s pioneers and long-time leaders, to introduce the GreenPower hard drives, storing up to 32GB to 1TB but still saving up to 40% in hard drive power consumption. Which means that not only are the hard drives good for Mother Nature, but they’re good for you wallet too! Early calculations suggest that a data centre with 10,000 drives could save up to $117,000 a year on energy costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 600 metric tons. Score one for the environment!
