3D World Urban Awards 2007

Jay-Z: from running the crack game, to running the rap game, to acting as an ambassador for clean water in Africa, Hova’s got it all sewn up.
BEST LOCAL ACT
The Tongue, Hermitude and Urthboy was hard to beat for a local triple-header.
BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT
Snoop at Good Vibes: who didn’t get a kick out of seeing him live and in the flesh-
BEST LOCAL DJ
Samrai: in terms of profile, he’s undoubtedly on top.
Runner-up: Noel Boogie.
BEST INTERNATIONAL DJ
DJ Ayres: if you need any proof that Baltimore/hip hop is huge right now, then how about the Oxford Art Factory getting sold out by crowds of kids clamouring to see a guy 90% of them had never heard of a week before-
BEST LOCAL PRODUCER
Stylaz Fuego: working with the big international guns.
BEST INTERNATIONAL PRODUCER
Timbaland: Mr Everywhere. Just steer clear of his solo record, though.
BEST HIP HOP VENUE
The Forum: when it came to big names, the Forum was way out in front.
PROMOTER OF THE YEAR
Slingshot (Brother Ali, Planet Asia, Lupe Fiasco, Junior Reid, Blackalicious, People Under The Stairs, Aceyalone, Kool Keith (Dr Octagon) & Kutmasta Kurt, the list goes on).
ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD FOR BRIGHT YOUNG UPSTARTS
Spit Syndicate: they’ve got the hype and the skills and they’re top blokes too.
MOST SPECTACULAR SHOW
Justin Timberlake: when certain people are still wearing their wristbands from JT weeks later, you wonder about the effect it’s had on their psyche.
MOST DISAPPOINTING SHOW
Slum Village: because of the lack of support for these Detroit legends.
BEST LOCAL ALBUM
Brad Strut – Legend.
Urthboy – The Signal.
BEST INTERNATIONAL ALBUM
Pharoahe Monch – Desire. Seven years in utero is a long time, but it was worth the wait for this Gospel flavoured Opus - better than Kanye’s and Fiddy’s put together.
MOST DISAPPOINTING ALBUM OF THE YEAR
50 Cent – Curtis: He could have released an EP with I Get Money remixes and it probably would have pleased the listener more than 17 rambling, self-aggrandizing tracks that fail to really offer an insight into any type of gangster lifestyle and could’ve made more sense delivered by a senile Bill Cosby. Not that Cosby endorses rap.
KRS One and Marley Marl – Hip Hop Lives could have been the greatest pairing in hip hop since Snoop and Dre. Unfortunately it was about 15 years too late and quite possibly sucked more than just about any release this year or any other year for that matter.
WHO’LL BE BIG IN 08
Lil Wayne: he hasn’t even released an album yet, but the buzz is strong on Weezy.
NO SHOW OF THE YEAR
AUSSIE BATTLER OF THE YEAR
Big Dave MC and Koky Prik Rekordz.
BLING ACCESSORY OF THE YEAR
Grillz: looking like Jaws from a Bond Movie has never been so trill.
MARKETING 101: BEST PUBLICITY STUNT
Lil Jon coming out to hawk Oakley’s – we don’t care, he’s still the King of Crunk. YEEEEAAAAAH!
BEST HIP HOP ENDORSED REALITY SHOW
Flavor of Love starring Flavor Flav – because every aspiring young gold digger wants an ex-crack addict for a husband.
Run’s House starring Run of Run DMC – “excruciating to watch”, according to our hip hop reality TV connoisseur.
